After a longer-than-expected reprieve, the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season finally brought its fury to the South. Cynthia Barnett’s excellent essay in Politico that takes a long look at Florida’s history—and all the dreams this landscape has inspired. “The hard work ahead,” Barnett writes, “is to understand that the nightmare of Hurricane Ian is likely to spin into a new Florida dream, and to help make sure it is a better one.”
